Through thick and thin

Created to wipe tears, shimmers with fake, sly smiles
Meant to lessen distances, barricades the shortest path
The energy it found to lighten up the lives
Incomprehensible was the mind, who decided to use its wrath

Β The echo of laughter reduced to emoticons yellow
The magical touch, craves for a glance
Hypnotized by devices and their beeps mellow
Fingers and eyes move in sync, as if in some trance

Melody of birds under the morning Sun
Unheard, suppressed by the dubstep loud
Thoughts kicked by tailor-made opinion
What if the silver lining shadows the cloud?

Madness swims from individual to world
River of blood flows with a small click
Sense degrades and compassion hurled
We made technology the reason of thin and thick.

Thank you Izzaa ! πŸ™‚ We have to think what it has given us and at what cost. Social media and phones, made to bring people closer our tearing us apart. Energy to light up lives is being used to burn cities. Probably its not the technology at fault, but the hands they are in. We, the people are at fault.

    Beautiful! A Powerful Message, Prateek!
Technology that was only a means of making life easier has now become the ends, “the reason of thin and thick”. Also, we all are so overwhelmed by the artificial materialistic things, busy in this rat race of a life, forgetting about the true simple pleasures of nature and life πŸ™‚
    Very well-written!

Very true, Shreya! Probably we were still not ready for the things technology gave us. Thank you for relating to it and letting me know your thoughts.

So much truth. For as much goodness that has come from these technological advances, reigns just as much bad. Many people miss out on reality, lost in a world created by man in what was originally a good intent. Exceptionally written with wise words! Amazing job, as usual πŸ™‚

Thank you so much for the insightful comment. I completely agree that though the intent was good, we continue to ruin ourselves by the misuse.
Have a great day ahead πŸ™‚

The overwhelming ‘easiness’ of everything is probably paralyzing our ability to be human. I hope the balance gets restored πŸ™‚

You’ve said it well: ease paralyzes! It’s our intention and action that will bring change. One word, one post, one interaction at a time. Keep up the good work.

I couldn’t agree with you more! My cafe visits, film outings, long walks are all doused in people and their self absorbed selfies so much that as a signal of defiance most of the people I know have stopped clicking pictures or using social media apps when together. These days my mantra is : If you can make me forget about my phone, you’re my man (or woman!).

A thoughtful and powerful post. Technology has negatively altered our communication and interactions both in the virtual as well as in the real world. Important aspects of communication, such as, facial expression, tone of voice, gesture, and conversational reciprocity are lost in the virtual world and not used appropriately or effectively during face-to-face interactions.

the echo of laughter reduced to emoticons yellow….so apt Prateek…..only poetry like this can counter the prosaicness of technology. It is another matter though that we are using the same technology to let our thoughts flow across….:)
