We, the people

SDC12599
Ajmal Khan Park (in very low light through a bad camera)

Lately, I have been going to a nearby park for running *shows off the fit body by words because truth is always bitter* and the random faces doing random things are now becoming familiar. It is amusing to notice that everyday almost the same set of people are in the park at a particular time who identify each other by the way they ignore each other.

There are some who are sleepy, others who are creepy and yet others weepy. Here, I will be sharing some of the interesting characters that probably could be found in a park near you.

1. There is this Sikh couple. Every morning, they can be seen brisk walking and talking to each other. I am so used to listen brief excerpts from their conversations that sometimes I hear the lady’s shrill voice in my nightmares which makes it impossible to sleep. The interesting part is I have never seen the lips of the husband move a bit. It seems that he is walking as fast as possible to get a moment away from his wife and her voice but as nature had it, sound always travels faster than husband.

2. Moving past them, I see an athlete who looksΒ as if he’ll die if he moves ONEΒ more step. But as soon as he spots a girl nearby, the testosterone takes the better of adrenaline and from Stephen Hawking, he transforms into Usain Bolt. That is how chemistry could have been taught in schools : “The electron goes from low energy state to excited state as soon as it encounters vibrant radiations” ❀

3. As I continue to move in the direction opposite to all of them, I spot the inspiration behind that temporary Usain Bolt. The two lovely ladies in black tracksuits lost in the music from their black earphones and holding black cellphones in their hands. I am sure if I had seen them without my spectacles on, they would have appeared the Black Beauty moving sideways.

4. Before I share the next group of people, I want to mention that I love old people. Especially the ones following me and reading this. πŸ˜€
So there they are – atleast 15 men with white hair and white Kurtas-pyjamas,Β laughing. Laughing on what? Nothing. They follow laughter therapy. I, too tried it with them once. What starts from an awkward and fake ha-ha-ha, transforms to a hearty laugh only by seeing other awkward faces. The scene becomes all the more funny when a couple of them starts pointing at each other and clapping violently along with the laughing. Just imagine more than a dozen people laughing uncontrollably at each other for no reason at all. Insanity is fun!

5. Just a few yards forward, I see a group of women (probably the wives of those laughing Buddhas) bitching about their son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws as if a competition is going on and the winner is the one who has raised the worst children.

Now since I am unable to think of a line to conclude this, I will now wait to know about more peculiar characters that you see in a park or anywhere else which unfortunately do not come to this park πŸ˜€

When did you become this awesome? πŸ˜€
Loved reading this. Your wits, sarcasm, made it more interesting!

Just like you, I, too have encountered such species. Creepy guys who waits at the same spot waiting for you complete the round of the park! You missed that or maybe you are not good enough for them πŸ˜€
    Sardar jis – Check
    Laughing aunties and uncles- Check
    Bitching ladies- Check
Guys in disguise of an athlete- Check

I have seen people who run less, but dress more, you get my point?

Such a refreshing post. I wish you luck for your turning a bitter truth into a sweet reality. Cheers! πŸ˜€

Haha I thank God I am not good enough for them! But yes, now I realize there are people just sitting! How much free time does it take to go and sit under a tree and do bird-watching (this is the phrase that was used for stalking by my maths teacher in school). Creepy indeed!
And yes! A wrist band, a head band and Nike kit is necessary to run a round of 600 metres πŸ˜€ I get your point!
      Thank you πŸ˜€

Prateek! Man, you are amazing. I kept laughing almost throughout the post. A sheer brilliance of wits, sarcasm, funniness and honesty.
“everyday almost the same set of people are in the park at a particular time who identify each other by the way they ignore each other” So true. I have often wondered why we Indians can’t embrace the culture of politely smiling at each other ( instead of ignoring each other in a manner of judgement) like the people in many other countries.
“The electron goes from low energy state to excited state as soon as it encounters vibrant radiations” Haha, What an analogy!
An awesome post, Prateek. Hats off!

It is such a relief after posting something funny when someone says they laughed throughout it! Thank you, Shreya. Thank you so very much πŸ™‚
And I too thought about the absence of the culture of smiling at strangers in India a few times. I find it difficult to do so because I am probably scared of how others would take it :/

And I have another friend who was brushing her teeth in the balcony and this monkey comes out of nowhere takes the brush out of her mouth and gives her one sound slap πŸ˜€

Oh, I almost forgot about the time we had a monkey attack at my old house, poor things managed to run away with a packet of maida, and then ended up tearing it and flung it right across the balcony along with a lot of screeching since they hadn’t mastered the art of making rotis πŸ˜›

Well, Prateek, you seem to have encountered a nice wide range of character types in your park. I’ve also come across women who can’t stop talking and men who just want to run away and hide. Your athlete, with his attraction to the lovely ladies sounds familiar, too. I particularly like the comparison of his heightened sexual attraction to excited elecrons. Wonderful. As for laughter therapy…! Perhaps that’s true. Most old people I see look pretty glum nowadays – until they get a few whiskies down their throats. Me…? I don’t like whisky, and don’t need alcohol to be happy. My husband has bottles of the stuff, given as gifts, but it just sits there, looking pretty.
I had a good laugh at you descriptions too. Most of the parks close to me are usually full of dog walkers, or children playing football, cricket or just hide and seek. Some people go to feed the ducks and swans. Very few go to run or jog, unless it’s very early in the morning. I’ll keep my eyes open, next time I go.
I enjoyed reading your piece and appreciated the humour instilled into it. πŸ™‚

And it is really exhilarating to know that you don’t like alcohol. The reason being that here it is common to hear that alcohol is a must for colder countries in Europe so one must be used to it if living a corporate life that needs travel.
I’ll quote you the next time I find myself in a condition where its difficult to avoid alcohol. πŸ™‚
