I looked in those eyes trying to find
The fear in which they swam
The pain that broke teary dams
Instead I saw,
Eye for an eye making the whole world blind
Innocent blood was split, burnt bodies were lined
Though candles were lit and songs were sung
Still hard to understand if the communal bee never stung
What candles couldn’t provide, was provided by terror
So eye for an eye made the whole world blind
Revenge was taken by spilling more innocent blood
Swords and knives transformed to RDX and guns
Punished was everyone except the culprits
The culprits of both sides still hard to find
Probably because eye for an eye has made us blind.
So true …”An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind.” I always felt that vengeance lead us no where …you need to have apathy towards the doer rather than hatred π

Very true, NJ. In spite of knowing it all, many times we too go with the moment and do something that seems right only in that moment.
I am glad to see your beautiful thoughts and thank you so much for sharing them. Hope they are read by everyone who forgets π

This is what we should avoid. Avoid all the negativity. Revenge and hatred leave us nowhere. Any room for improvement is literally dangling between the pillars of unearthly people with their unforgivable behavior! I guess, we have a lot happening in our own country, and aren’t live videos of foolishness of our fellow countrymen enough?! :S
You know what, your posts make me laugh, they are deep, carry so much weight, dripping with emotions and lessons to be learnt and mistakes to be made! Keep writing.
Beautifully penned as usual! ^_^

Very true, Shambhavi. No matter how hard it is to avoid negative feelings, it has to be done for the greater good.
You said an amazing line here. These are the very instances happening in our country that prompted me to write this.
Also, do you know your comments make my day? Every time they come? Thank you so much for that π

Where have you been?
Bang on come back with this poetry I must say.
Revenge and vengeance can never be a solution.
We humans are so foolish right? We speak about the unity among other creatures and we end up disrupting our own unity with our own behaviors. What a beautiful place the world will be, when we actually learn to forgive and forget. Understand perspective of others, accept them and grow with them. Just maybe, one day, there wont be any violence.

Well, I’m not gonna lie; since you found me way back in April, I haven’t been able to stop reading your blog (although, I didn’t realize I wasn’t even following you until today haha. Sometimes I question my sanity… :P). Everything you do on here is just so awesome and inspirational. I love it! And because I love it, I decided to nominate you for the Liebster Award. You’ll need to check out the details here: https://ireallyhateconverse.wordpress.com/2015/08/12/the-liebster-award/. Feel free to accept the nomination or not. It’s totally up to you!
Keep up the awesome work! I’m always looking forward to your posts! β€

The well known phrase, ‘revenge is sweet’ is so untrue. The desire for revenge does nothing but embitter us still further. Understanding and forgiveness of those who have wronged us is the better solution – although undoubtedly the more difficult to do. Lovely peom, Prateek. π
